GOLDEN ACORN AWARD
Arbor Heights Elementary PTA (AHPTA)
The Arbor Heights Parent Teacher Association (AHPTA) is a nonprofit, membership association which seeks to bring together the home, school and community on behalf of all children and youth.
The Arbor Heights PTA General Meeting occurs the third Thursday of every month of the school year, at 6:00pm. (Occasionally the meeting is moved to the fourth Thursday to accommodate holidays or other scheduled school events. Check the school bulletin for the PTA meeting date.) The meetings typically run for 1-hour. Childcare is provided.
The Mission of the Arbor Heights PTA is to support the Students, the Families and the Staff of the Arbor Heights Community.
The Arbor Heights PTA does this through:
: To provide academic enrichment programs, capital improvements and supplies for students and the school.
: Facilitate communication between families (parents/guardians), teachers, staff and the school district.
: Foster healthy relationships and build strong ties to the Arbor Heights school community; empower parents/guardians to be strong advocates for their school and their student; encourage all families to get involved in the school.
Through our actions we will contribute to the success of every student.

The PTA is also the place where parents and staff can make their issues and concerns heard to school administration and Seattle School District leadership. For example, at the end of 2004, the Arbor Heights community, through the PTA, raised their concerns over mold and other environmental issues at the school with top School District leaders. The PTA funded an independent consultant, and volunteer parents and staff successfully worked together with the District through the summer on the Arbor Heights Mold Task Force, to ensure that the environmental problems with the building were addressed, and that the school was safe for our kids and teachers come September. PTA is there to help parents and staff be heard.
